Neck pain is one of the most common problems today, especially among working professionals, students, and mobile users. Long hours of sitting, poor posture, stress, and lack of exercise can strain the cervical spine and surrounding muscles.
At Dr Niteesh Kumar’s Physiotherapy Chiropractic and Acupuncture Clinic, we focus on identifying the root cause of neck pain and providing effective, non-surgical treatment for long-lasting relief.
Forward head posture occurs when the head moves forward in front of the shoulders instead of staying aligned over the spine.
It is commonly caused by prolonged mobile use, computer work, and poor sitting habits.
This posture increases strain on the neck muscles and cervical spine.
It can lead to neck pain, headaches, shoulder tightness, and stiffness.
Cervical spondylosis is age-related wear and tear of the discs and joints in the neck (cervical spine).
It commonly occurs after the age of 40 due to degeneration of cartilage and discs.
Symptoms may include neck pain, stiffness, headaches, and sometimes arm pain or numbness.
Poor posture and long hours of sitting can worsen the condition.
Disc bulge (slipped disc) occurs when the soft inner part of a spinal disc pushes outward through its outer layer.
In the neck, it can press on nearby nerves and cause pain.
Symptoms may include neck pain, arm pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness.
It is commonly caused by poor posture, injury, or age-related degeneration.
Muscle spasm is a sudden tightening of neck muscles due to strain, poor posture, or stress.
Trigger points are tight, painful knots within the muscle that can cause referred pain.
They commonly develop from prolonged sitting, mobile use, or improper sleeping posture.
Symptoms include stiffness, localized pain, and sometimes headache.
Whiplash injury is a neck injury caused by sudden forward and backward movement of the head, commonly seen in road traffic accidents.
This rapid motion strains muscles, ligaments, and cervical joints.
Symptoms include neck pain, stiffness, headache, dizziness, and sometimes shoulder pain.
Pain may appear immediately or within 24–48 hours after injury.
Improper sleeping posture places excessive strain on the neck and spine during rest.
Using very high, very low, or unsupportive pillows can disturb natural cervical alignment.
Sleeping on the stomach often twists the neck for long hours.
This may lead to morning stiffness, neck pain, and headaches.

In most cases, surgery is not required. The majority of neck pain cases improve with physiotherapy, chiropractic care, posture correction, and strengthening exercises.
Mild neck pain may improve within 1–3 weeks. Chronic or disc-related issues may require structured treatment for 4–8 weeks depending on severity.
Sleeping on your back or side with proper pillow support that maintains natural neck alignment is recommended. Avoid very high or very flat pillows.
